History

Our airline was established in 2005 as Nordic Soutions Air Services. The main purpose of the company was to operate charter and wet lease flights on SAAB340 cargo and passenger aircraft. The company grew steadily to a size of four SAAB340 aircraft operating mostly in Norther Europe for bluechip clients such as TNT and Royal Mail.

In 2008 the company was rebranded to its current name Avion Express.

In 2010 Avion Express was acquired by French investment company Eyjafjoll SAS, formed by Avion Capital Partners of Switzerland (www.acp.aero) along with strategic investors from industry. The new owners set up a long term plan to develop the airline as a wet lease specialist. The first step of this plan was to move towards a jet airplane operation. A significant milestone was reached in April 2011 when Avion Express introduced its first Airbus 320 passenger aircraft. The aircraft was based in Milan, Malpensa and operated succesfully on behalf of Italian tour operators throughout the summer season.

A further two Airbus 320 aircraft were added in December 2011 and one in April 2012 to its present size of three SAAB 340 and four Airbus 320 aircraft.

A further milestone for the company was the signing of a contract for two Airbus 320 on behalf of new Icelandic Travel entity WOW Air. This Iceland based operation is due to start on June 1st, 2012.
